For the first time after turning the other cheek on the war America gets sucker punch, so to speak, by Japan at Pearl Harbor. After the Japans attacked American soil the United States declares war on Japan and all their allies, which would consist of Italy, and Germany. Thus bringing America in to World War II. June 6, 1944 the U.S Army steps foot on the coast of Normandy France for the first time in battle.
General Esenhower(the commander of the pacific) lead the troops in to France. The U.S army was officially apart of the allied axis. According to d day sources “the invasion itself gave prominence to land forces but provide major roles for air and sea components. More then 1000 troops were transported, or dropped down. Despite the all the bombardment from the air and the sea the Germans reaction was intense. Particularly at Omaha beach where Germany ripped a nice piece out of the U.S Army.
Even still the U.S held their ground. On the 25 of July general omar Bradley set off an air and land bombardment against the enemy at St. lo providing the U.S army with a passage way in to the Germans line of defense.
